Wat Phra That Hariphunchai is located along Intha Yongyot Road, Tambon Nai Mueang, Amphoe Mueang, Lamphun was build in the 17th Century B.E by King Athitayarat in order to house the Buddha’ relic which magically appeared in Royal palace precinct. The temple was originally built in a tiered shape Chedi. King Sawawathisis of Hariphunchai Kingdom covered the original one with a larger Chedi in the same the style. It remained until the 19th century B.E. when Phraya Mengrai conquered the Kingdom and commanded a bell-shape Chedi to be built over it. Many succeeding Lanna Kings had the Chedi renovated. The form seen today is the result of the grand renovation during the King Tolokarat reign around the end of the 20th century B.E. it was a combination of the Burmese-Phukam style and the Lankan Bell-shaped architecture, which formed a unique Lanna Style renowed for its elegance that become the model for many other principal Chedis..
